
How Northside built a roastery in a bus shelter

The first roast happened in a decommissioned Calgary Transit shelter that Kemi bought for $400 and hauled to a friend’s yard. Neighbours complained about the smell for a week and then started leaving mugs on the fence.
Six years later the shelter sits in the corner of the Inglewood roastery like a shrine. “We keep it because it reminds us that the neighbourhood came first,” Kemi says. Same-day delivery across Calgary came later, once the numbers made sense.
